UMI EXPANDS DISTRIBUTION IN THE SOUTHEAST

UMI Jacksonville

On November 6, 2019, UMI acquired Any Old Stone, a Jacksonville company focused in the distribution of surfacing materials.  This recent acquisition follows UMI’s plans for expansion in the Florida market and is aligned with one of their strategic goals to expand the well-known expertise and services the UMI name has established.

Any Old Stone’s 15,000-square-foot indoor stone gallery was designed with the customer in mind, an important factor to UMI’s vision for their in-store surface buying experience. “Any Old Stone and UMI have been doing business together for the past five years and our business models are vertically aligned,” said Don DiNorcia, president of UMI.  “We believe that with the addition of this location and the market knowledge and relationships built through our partnership thus far, we will be able to exceed our customer’s service expectations,” he added.

Ennio Marcantuono opened Any Old Stone in 2014 with the goal to provide a state-of-the-art facility where customers could come in and visualize how the company’s exclusive selection of stone would integrate into their own project.  Ennio and his team will remain onboard carrying out the day-to-day operations of the facility which will operate under UMI – Jacksonville, effective today.

“Our product assortment has been very beneficial to our customer base as it allows them to hand-select from natural stones such as exotic marbles, granites, quartzites, and semi-precious, as well as high-performance materials like quartz and porcelain,” Marcantuono added.  “I am very happy to join the UMI team and to continue leading a wonderful group of dedicated individuals.”

In the summer of 2019, UMI was acquired by Construction Resources, also known as CR, which is a major southeast design and construction company headquartered in Atlanta.  They have built a strong reputation in the construction sector with the product and service solutions they offer their customers. CR has grown in the last decade by acquiring businesses that align with their strategic mission.  “The addition of a Jacksonville facility is part of our strategic effort to grow and expand in the southeast so we can service both the residential and commercial segments,” Mitch Hires, CEO of Construction Resources stated.  “We’ve grown our sales organically through our multiple locations that offer a wide range of products like countertops, appliances, glass and fireplaces, to name a few.  “We’re also regularly evaluating growth opportunities through acquisition and in the case of Any Old Stone it was a perfect fit to our UMI model,” he concluded.

Since its founding in 2002, UMI has grown into one of the largest wholesale suppliers of stone products in the southeast. Its countertop slab offerings include Pompeii Quartz, natural stone, porcelain, and recycled glass, in addition to complementary products including tile and sinks. UMI has a diversified customer base, and the Jacksonville location joins three design centers/distribution facilities already located in Naples, Tampa, and Boynton Beach, FL.
