Q: tell us a little about your background.

A:  I have loved design ever since I can remember. I clearly remember getting the big JCPenney and Sears catalogs in the mail, and while everyone was looking through the girls clothing, I immediately went to the back and looked at all of the bedding and furniture. I didn’t know what I was looking at, but I was hooked! I am originally from Miami and moved to Gainesville to attend UF and decided to stay after graduation. My husband and I started a home building and design firm here and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Q: what style do you like to design the most?

A: Fresh traditional…I like to remind my clients “traditional” is not a bad word—it just needs a fresh twist!

Q: what project are you most proud of?

A: One of my very first projects out of college, I was just the assistant, and we designed a single man’s home here in Gainesville. 20 years later, he called me back to redesign the home, and I was able to revisit everything that I had done 20 years prior. It was exactly the same. It was like a time capsule! He let me have free reign to do what I wanted with his exquisite taste in mind, and it turned out wonderfully.

Q: what is your favorite product UMI carries? And favorite color of that product?

A: Ijen is just stunning. It’s a showstopper. We recently designed an entire Kitchen around it. The client fell in love and had to have it. Honestly, we really used it as a basis for the whole house redesign.

Q: what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

A: Traveling, gardening, knitting, watching Florida Gator and Miami Dolphin football (it’s a hard year) and, of course, hanging out with my kids and family

Q: how can people get in touch with you if they would like you to design their home?

A: My blog, The Evans Edit, or any social media. I am based in Gainesville but handle projects all over.
